Volunteers

Volunteers are integral to the success of Montgomery BEST and serve in a variety of roles during the competition period. We welcome individuals and groups from the community, academia, industry, and government. Please review the volunteer descriptions below.

Volunteers can serve in one of three ways:

Competition Judges assess numerous award categories on and before competition day. Categories range from non-technical (marketing presentations, spirit & sportsmanship) to technical (engineering notebook, robot design) and are all fun to judge! Competition judges should be university graduate students, faculty, business professionals, or STEM professionals.

Event Personnel assist with competition day activities, including registration, hospitality, refereeing, and scorekeeping. Anyone is welcome to serve as event personnel.

Team Mentors are paired with a local team and work directly with that team to assist them throughout the six week “design and construction” phase leading up to the competition itself. Team mentors are generally members of the local community and/or industry with a technical background and a strong interest in helping students. (Let us know if you’re interested in serving as a mentor for the 2022 competition.)
